OWN is not an acronym — it’s a challenge... to take responsibility for your knowledge, skills and experiences, and join the discussion on achieving gender justice. Because change happens, one small idea at a time.

The aim is to exchange thoughts across generational lines regardless of your background:

Are you a wide-eyed idealist when it comes to ending discrimination against women? OWN it!

Have past situations led you to be a little more cautious? OWN it!

Do you consider yourself liberal, radical, or just shy away from labels altogether when identifying your brand of feminism? Whatever your position is, OWN it!

Are you a veteran of the struggle for women’s rights? A relative newcomer, just beginning to unlearn the ways of the patriarchy? Or somewhere in between? Know your place, and OWN it!

We all have different attitudes, life herstories, and outlooks towards women’s empowerment. But we all agree that we’d like to see an end to gender-based discrimination, right?

Whether your tools of choice are schoolbooks or protest signs, artworks or signature campaigns, you have something to offer this conversation.

So let’s use this space to identify the problems we face and the various approaches towards ending them. There’s no one best way to reach a gender-just society, but that doesn’t mean we can’t share the views and strategies we choose as our OWN!
