In the city, residents are feeling more and more the proliferation of Koreans, who flock here to learn English. Many young Filipinos are finding job opportunities in the situation, either as school teachers or private tutors. The foreigners say the Philippines offers a cheaper price for learning the language, and is more attractive for its similar Oriental culture. Most health care professionals assume that women seeking reproductive health care are heterosexual, thus failing to meet the specific needs of lesbians. Coupled with this is a prevalence of homophobia and inadequate information about lesbian needs in the medical profession, which makes lesbians avoid seeking medical care, for fear of being ridiculed or harassed. Lesbian NGOs are advocating for the presence of lesbian-friendly medical and mental health professionals and a more holistic RH framework that would cater to lesbians as well.
